Captain Jim Sharpe, Jr. moved to the Keys with his family from Miami in 1976. He started out fishing for sharks as a hobby and then got into commercial fishing with his dad, Captain Jim Sharpe, Sr.  Jim Jr. worked the deck of his dad’s commercial boat and ran his own commercial boat fishing for lobster, stone crab and fin fish like snapper, grouper and mackerel.

            In 1981 Jim Sr. and Jim Jr. went into the charter boat business. They built their first boat, which was a 34’ crusader called the Sea Boots. Jim Jr. would work the deck on the weekends and holidays. In 1985 Jim Jr. got his Captain’s license and began captaining the 34’ Sea Boots. In 1990 Jim Sr. and Jim Jr. built the Sea Boots III, a 43’ Torres which Jim Jr. also captained.

Captain Jim Sharpe Jr. has Captained many boats from his family’s boats, Sea Boots fleet to private boats like the 35’ Cabo called the Talisman, a 55’ Hatters called the Dos Grande and the 60’ Bertram called the Desperado to name a few. Capt. Jim Jr. has fished all over the Caribbean, Florida and South Carolina, Ocean City Maryland, the Bahamas’, Panama, Costa Rica and Venezuela.

Capt. Jim Sharpe Jr. has won or placed in many fishing tournaments such as first place in the 1993 Texaco Hemingway Key West Classic, first place in the John Curry Key West Classic, first place in the Cabo Challenge in 1998, Top Guide in the 1998 Texaco Key West Classic, first place in the 1999 Drambuie Marlin Tournament, first place in the 2001 Islamorada Fishing Club Sailfish Tournament, first place in the 2001 BBC Harbor Island Championship, Largest Blue Marlin for the 2001 BBC Tournaments, which was 785 lbs., and first and third place in the 2009 Women’s Dolphin Tournament in Key West to name a few.

Captain Jim Sharpe Jr. is a licensed United States Coast Guard Captain since 1985 and Keys resident since 1976 with 34 years of experience fishing in the Keys.  He has been in many sport fishing magazines including the cover of the Sport fishing Magazines Aug./Sept 1990 issue and has been on TV fishing shows like Fishing with Castaway Coolis, Fox Sport Channel and the Sunshine Network to name a couple. He is also a director on several boards such as The District Advisory Committee Two or DAC II for the Tourist Development Council of the Florida Keys, the Board of Director for the Lower Keys Chamber of Commerce past First Vice President and current Parliamentarian and an alternate for the Sanctuary Advisory Committee for the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. He also served on the Spiny Lobster Advisory Board for the State of Florida and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission. Captain Jim Sharpe Jr. also has his real estate license and sells real estate along with his wife, who has been selling real estate full time for over 20 years.
